wow

me and my friend katie were deciding what we should do since it
was a sunday and we wanted to have as much fun as possible before
going back to the grind tomorrow so we decided to go downtown and sit
at a coffee shop and read for a little while and then watch 'batman
begins.'
after the movie, we were contemplating what we should have for dinner
- sandwiches at the wawa convenience store or sushi. we chose sushi
but we walk for blocks and blocks and all the sushi places we tried
were closed. at our last closed sushi place, we decided that we needed
to pee so we go into a little cuban cafe and decide to have mojitos -
a mint, lime, and rum combination - while making use of their
restrooms. since we still hadn't had dinner, i suggest we drive to
chinatown, to 'penang' the malaysian restaurant.
at penang, we are seated close to the rear of the eatery and from the
corner of my eye, i catch a glimpse of a bookish, chinese looking man
in rather formal attire - a black blazer and white oxford - sitting
with a rather formally attired posse. i think, could this be Dr. Koh,
the Chief Minister of Penang? after settling our orders, i asked the
waitress if she was malaysian and when she answered in the
affirmative, she confirmed my suspicion.
by this time, i was shifting in my seat, wondering how i should go
about the business of introducing myself, being friendly but not too
pushy, and inquiring about his visit to philadelphia. i decide to wait
until the party was taking their leave and i hastily make it to YBhg
Datuk Dr. Koh Tsu Koon and extend my hand and provided him with more
information than he cared for.
yeah it was surreal to actually meet a vip thousands of kilometers
away from home, slightly tipsy from cuban rum no less.
