things i am thinking about

Wimbledon! May Venus plow the competition.

Millennium Development Goals courtesy of upcoming symposium.

The New Yorker: The Epitome of everything smart, chic and smart. (First issue of my subscription arrived today ... whee!)

Furniture for my room (as it is, I lay in bed all day due to the lack of upright seating objects to plant my butt on): here, here and here . God, I hope I don't get carpal tunnel syndrome or whatever it is you get from reclining uncomfortably all day.

I don't yet own a pair of chopsticks. My ancestors are rolling in their graves.

Grad school in New York. I will apply to this program.

I have not left the house in 24 hours.

California and London.

Wine (I'm almost done with a Riesling and I have a bottle of Pinot Grigio. I should go out to get some Chardonnay tomorrow, if only for the exercise. So pretentious.)

Movies I have watched in the past week: Junebug; Me, You and Everyone We Know; Capote; Breakfast on Pluto; Corpse Bride; and Prozac Nation.

Zadie Smith's On Beauty, which I finished today. Last third of the book was much easier to get through than the first two thirds.

I'm hungry.

genocide

it seems as if all i've read this weekend are morbid tales of torture and depression but those are elements of life, aren't they?

i read this story and was so horrified, angry and helpless all at the same time that it made me quite discombobulated and i almost missed getting off at my stop on the metro.

human traficking

a truly touching nine page story that mirrored my situation a month ago to a greater extent. i too once thought about going underground.

washington d.c.

want to know more about the greater washington d.c. area? click here.

it's the fourth most populated area in the US of A, even more populated than the greater Philadelphia area.

plus the cost of living here is lower than comparable cities like london, hongkong, paris and even beijing.

faux finale

i did intend for my graduation post to be my last post in this journal, a digitally significant end to my college and pre-independent life but i've since had a change of heart.
i've settled into my new digs in bethesda, which if you're not familiar with the d.c. area (i wasn't until 2 weeks ago), is the first metro stop on the red line in maryland. it takes me approximately 25 minutes (walk and train time) to get to dupont circle which, over this past weekend, has become my favorite place in dc.
in the process of unpacking, i have unearthed my digital camera cable and was able to upload my graduation pictures which i shall include for your pleasure ;) .

As I mentioned before, graduation started with breakfast at the beloved caf, where we rekindled freshman memories.

Commencement on a rainy and humid day.

Caps make me look silly.

My lone guest at Commencement, Andrew! By the way, orgasmic sushi at Sapporo East if you are ever in the Harrisburg area.

Philly roomies at post-graduation drunken campfire.

Drinking a Sam Adams on our pretend roadtrip where we sat in the car and fantasized about driving to some place divine. I also learned that it is illegal to have an open bottle of an alcoholic beverage while driving a car in the U.S.

Over and out. I hope I wake up tomorrow.
